So I started a blog. Why? I'm not really sure. I think I felt compelled to. I'm always updating my Facebook and Twitter with random crap that nobody cares about. So when I geek out about Step By Step (be it the show or the song) or The Baby Sitters Club on either of those sites, I feel like everybody just rolls their eyes and moves on - "Oh, Steph and her crazy obsessions..." So here I am. And there you are.
I first decided I wanted to start a blog a few months ago while watching the first season of Californication. Thanks to the magic of Netflix, I had the entire first season at my fingertips, and that, combined with a fondness for David Duchovny dating back to my early teens, I decided to watch. And then I saw them:
The little girl from The Nanny's boobs.
I was completely weirded out. She wasn't old enough to be all out there! She's the Little Girl. From The Nanny. But there she was, all topless and punching Duchovny in the face. I immediately grabbed my phone and went to update Facebook. But then I thought...who cares? Nobody wants to read about my issues with former child actors bearing it all. They don't care that I closed my eyes during that scene in Brokeback Mountain where Anne Hathaway pulls a Julie Andrews in SOB. She's Princess Mia - basically a Disney princess. That's just not right.
My second desire to start a blog also stemmed from an episode of Californication. I found out that the actress who plays Charlie's wife Marcy is played by Pamela Adlon, AKA the voice of Bobby Hill on King of the Hill. Again, I ran to my keyboard to post about this discovery on Facebook and again thought...who cares? So what if the voice actress behind perennial 13 year old Bobby Hill was playing a character that was his polar opposite, saying and doing 'dirty' things?
I saw an episode of Louie* the other night which also featured Adlon. Seeing her again playing a character so...frank, so...un family friendly, reminded me of my adventures with Californication and my silly desire to blog. So, I went for it. Blogged.
Where will this blog go from here? I don't know. I'm half inspired by LOLSlater to do something similar, snarking on a TV show that was much beloved in my youth (Full House? The Brady Bunch?). I've recently become reobsessed with The Baby Sitters Club, so that might come up a lot. I might just keep musing on random movie/TV stuff, since I spend pretty much half my life focused on the screens, both silver and small.
Or I just won't ever post again. Knowing me, that could definitely happen.
*Awesome show, by the way. I've only recently discovered the genius that is Louis C.K. and his show is definitely worth checking out if you're into that awkward and wildly inappropriate sort of comedy.
